Dame School In-Person

Children aged 8 years old and up are invited to join Prudence Gray,  owner of a dame school in Colonial America, for lessons and recess.   Children will experience learning a variety of subjects i.e., geography, weather, recitation via hornbooks as well as lessons and morals from Aesop Fables. Participants will learn how to write with a quill pen and ink.  During recess, the children will visit Mrs. Gray’s kitchen to try cooking tools of the era and taste a colonial treat. Recess also includes learning about and playing with colonial toys and games. Registration is required.

This event has been developed with a donation from the Jennifer Kane Scholarship and Charitable Trust. Each child who attends will receive a free book related to American history or culture.
