F*cked Up Fairy Tales: an Anti-Valentines Date Night Event In-Person

Join us February 12th at 6:30pm in the Fehlow Room at the Main Branch for F*cked Up Fairy Tales: an Anti-Valentines Date Night Event

Did you know for at least four thousand years, humans have shared fairy tales about people marrying animals? Author, folklorist, and accidental Tiktok star Liz Gotauco loves to remind people of this, especially in our era of modern dating and relationships. Did apps ruin dating? Is chivalry dead? Why do people ghost each other? It turns out these aren't new problems, and fairy tales showcase that. How else do we explain that long before the birth of Christ, we told hundreds of stories about women trying to fix actual beasts, of men chasing literal uh, pussycats, and still others who gave up men and women in favor of moving in with bears and birds?

Join us for some selections from Gotauco's adult fairy tale collection F*cked Up Fairy Tales, as well as some stories beyond the book that showcase the perils of fairy tale dating, relationships, and marriage, long before social media complicated romance. Gotauco brings her signature saucy and deliberately adult storytelling to her fairy tales, highlighting versions of popular stories you've never heard and reviving obscure tales forgotten to time (often for good reason).

There will be time for a Q&A and light refreshments available!
