A Monument in the Making (Plymouth's Parting Ways) In-Person
Please join us on June 17th at 6:30pm in the Fehlow Room for the first of a three-part lecture series entitled, “A Monument in the Making,” to honor and commemorate the 4 slaves at Plymouth’s Parting Ways.
This lecture series is being given by Rev. Dr. Robert Gomes and is based on his paper at Harvard University.
The series will highlight personal connections to Parting Ways, community engagement, and historic preservation ideas.

Part 2. Keeping Parting Ways Legacy Alive: Reflection on Gomes 1990 Harvard paper, entitled , “A Monument in the Making” , CAC non profit involvement: proposed walking trails, and explore types of historical monuments. (9/16/25)
Part 3. Excerpts from Gomes upcoming book: “A Monument in the Making” , Getting to know the 4 slaves better by drawing on primary sources, military records, probate documents, and Archeological findings, and anecdotal stories.(12/9/25)

More about our speaker:
Dr. Gomes holds 3 degrees in theology. He is one of the early founders (70s) of the Parting Ways non-profit organization. He has served in ministry for over 35 years. Pastored rural and urban churches, from Boston, Houston, Austin, and Marion, MA. He was an Instructor at Lipscomb University, Nashville. Gomes and his wife, Linda, were also missionaries in Cape Verde. Gomes is presently working as a Chaplain for a Hospice community and collaborating with CAC non-profit to keep the Partine Ways legacy alive.
