Live Music Making History Live: A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music

Live Music Making History Live: A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music In-Person

Jon Waterman's Live Music Making History Live is an educational concert series that uses music to inspire enthusiasm and a desire to explore history! Jon will be presenting "A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music" and exploring the characters and events in the origin of blues, rock, and country music in the United States.  Each chapter of the concert provides insight into different aspects of the musical journey: the development of blues, the "big bang" of country music, railroad songs, the Tejano tradition, and the impact of racism and the stifling of the arts. By celebrating history as a source of entertainment, "A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music" shows an appreciation of diversity and culture by helping us understand each other and ourselves. Celebrating history brings individuals together as a community, giving them a sense of identity from shared stories and experiences. History as a source of entertainment promotes critical thinking and an awareness and understanding of contemporary issues. Come learn the history of our uniquely American musical traditions!

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Plymouth Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
